Who is this “Sam Birnbaum” anyway?
Throughout my life, I’ve been exposed to STEM, art, and nature. I’ve competed in regional robotics championships, traveled to Ireland to play the Cello with a fiddle group, and have always loved exploring nature and learning about wildlife. To me, nothing intersects these foundational aspects of my life more than video games.
I grew up playing Pokémon and weird indies (Mushroom Men, Undertale, Starbound) alongside flash and .io games. Feeling a connection to these small but soulful titles, I decided to pursue a bachelors degree in VR and Game Development at Ohio University, which I’ll be graduating with this May. Making, playing, and thinking about games with a group of creatives in college has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life so far. It has only served to stoke my passion and enhance my creativity, problem solving, and design sense. There’s nothing I’d rather do more than make games with unique and creative people for the rest of my life.
Throughout my academic career, I’ve gained important skills in:
C#, Python, and GDScript scripting languages
Godot and Unity Engine
Programs such as Git, Blender, and Adobe Creative Cloud
The ability to communicate efficiently and work with a team
Game genres I enjoy most are Roguelites and Roguelikes for their arcade-style replayability and creature collectors because of their unique monster designs and teambuilding. I’ll often find myself playing an adventure RPG, platformer, or relaxing clicker game too.
